![]() (I did the next step because of a search result on getting scanning to work after a 'could not connect error'. Possible requirement: HP printer capable of airprint, bonjour on (assumption is that you have bonjour on already since the printer worked before in macos 13 or less) After a bit of searching I and (randomly clicking?) I got my printer to work. So I removed it and tried to install it again with the result that I could select the printer but not a driver. It was still in the list of printer but wasn't working correctly. But others struggling with Sonoma 14 and HP printers in general might find it helpful.Īfter upgrading from 13.x to 14.1 my printer in the dock became a large "?". This doesn't help helpless111 as it is for airplay printers. > System Settings> Printers & Scanners, and add it again, select AirPrint.Īdd a printer to your printer list so you can use it on MacĪdd a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac - Apple SupportĬonnect an AirPrint printer to a Wi-Fi network - Apple Support.Ĭonnect an AirPrint printer to a Wi-Fi network - Apple Support If it is listed as AirPrint printer, delete the existing printer in Solve printing problems on Mac - Apple Support It is impossible to speculate on which "My old HP printer." you might be referring to. If you want to try this, subsitute “HP_6970_Air” for your own printer name of course. So if you can somehow make these conditions true, you should be good, like I am now, after 3 days of swearing and hair pulling. there exists a “System/Library/Image Capture/Devices/AirScanScanner.app” file.the last line in that file says *APScannerModulePath: "/System/Library/Image Capture/Devices/AirScanScanner.app" and.there exists a “/private/etc/cups/ppd/HP_6970_Air.ppd” file and. Now, a word of warning, my recall of the steps might be a little troubled and I might have executed some other steps in between or repeated one or two a few times, like rebooting and emptying the bin, but the end result is that I then edited the “/private/etc/cups/ppd/HP_6970_Air.ppd” file to included that same line at the end and Presto! my scanner worked again. So I checked on my Macbook Air M2 and lo and behold, the AirScanScanner.app file was also present in the same location. “System/Library/Image Capture/Devices/AirScanScanner.app" ![]() When I looked in my old MacBook Pro running Sierra I found that the same PPD has a different path and file for what I assume is the scanner driver: *APScannerModulePath: "/Library/Image Capture/Devices/HP Scanner 3.app"īut there was NO HP Scanner 3.app in /Library/Image Capture/Devices/ !!!! Examining this file with a text editor, I discovered these 3 lines at the end of the file: That did NOT occur when using the HP Easy Start software. I executed your steps a few times without any positive result, but I also noticed that adding the printer through the macOS Printers & Scanners panel, generated a file called “HP_6970_Air.ppd” (“HP_6970_Air” being the name I gave to my printer) in /private/etc/cups/ppd. Thanks FlyingAppleFortress, your detailed description made me dig a bit deeper and I found a solution for my problem thanks to you, indirectly. ![]()
